How to print Shopify shipping labels with a thermal printer

If you print shipping labels on an office printer, you're paying for ink, cutting paper and taping it to boxes. A thermal label printer prints peel-and-stick 4×6 labels with heat, no ink needed.

What you need

• A thermal label printer, for example the Rollo.
• 4×6 direct thermal labels, such as these fan-fold labels.

Setting it up with Shopify

1. Install the printer driver from the maker's site.
2. In Shopify, open Settings → Shipping and delivery and set the label format to 4×6 for a label printer.
3. Buy a label on an order and print it. Do a test print before your busy season.

Tips

• Keep a spare stack of labels. Running out mid-rush is the most common problem.
• Shopify's help center has the current steps for your printer and country; check it if a menu has moved.
