Shopify POS hardware: what you actually need
Selling at a market, pop-up or shop counter with Shopify POS starts with the phone or tablet you already own. Everything else is optional, so add hardware only when it saves you time.
Start with the device you have
Shopify POS runs on an iPhone, iPad or supported Android device. For card payments you'll need a card reader that's supported in your country; Shopify's hardware store lists the options for your region.
Add a scanner when typing SKUs slows you down
If you carry more than a few products, a barcode scanner speeds up checkout and stock counts. A Bluetooth scanner such as the Socket Mobile S740 pairs with the POS device, so there are no cables on the counter.
Add a receipt printer if customers ask for paper
Many customers are happy with an emailed receipt. If yours want paper, a thermal printer like the Star Micronics mC-Print3 prints without ink.
